Watermelon seeds

Remember the fun as a child. Eating watermelon outside and seeing who could spit the black seeds the furthest.

Then as an adult, the seeds became a nuisance. Luckily, this was about the time when "seedless" watermelons came out. Now they are pretty much the norm.

Why am I discussing this? Tonight, after supper, I cut up some watermelon for dessert. Darrelyn found a "rock" in her watermelon. I explained it was a seed. She quickly informed me that watermelon seeds are white.

That was when I told her and Breanna all about the glory days. When watermelons were full of those seeds. Darrelyn then thought she must be very lucky if she found one in her watermelon and decided to dry it out and add it to her rock collection.

You know, like a person would preserve a fossil.

The end of the week

Thursday:

I did a thorough cleaning of both bathrooms. I cleaned out the medicine cabinets and under the sinks. I washed the showers, scrubbed the floors and everything in between. I guess this would be the downfall of having a second bathroom, twice the work ::)

Thursday afternoon, the girls and I went to the museum. They had fun playing while I crocheted. After supper, we watched Star Wars Episode II and cuddled.

Once the girls were in bed, I went shopping. I needed a green shirt for Friday (St. Patrick's Day) and didn't own one. Which is quite odd, because I look really good in some shades of green. After going to Reitman's and Winners I finally found one in Walmart. It is also a nice style to wear when we go to Vegas.

Friday:

Friday morning, Breanna and I went to playgroup at Cara's house. I met a nice lady who is joining our group and overall we had a nice morning.

On the way home, my cell phone rang. It was Darrelyn's T.A. She said Darrelyn mentioned a few times that she wasn't feeling well. Breanna and I picked her up on our way home. The funniest thing happened though. We were home for about 30 minutes and she felt fine... hmmm. Okay, I'm going to give her the benefit of the doubt and say she really wasn't feeling well, but after resting was doing much better.

In the afternoon, I cleaned the living room, the kitchen and the playroom. Rusty was coming over after work to put up the playroom ceiling so I had to cover the toys with blankets. Then, I made supper for Gary and the girls.

When Gary got home, he drove me to meet up with Melissa, Jen and Stew. It was great seeing them again and catching up. I really don't like it when I lose touch with people. Jen and Melissa tried to help me find a pair of jeans at Old Navy and now understand why its hard for me to find proper fitting jeans. Then, we went to "Sight Unseen" at the Imperial Theatre. I really enjoyed the play. It was a good story and I thought everyone did a great job.

After the play, I called Cara to find out where they were. I joined them at Churchill's and had a couple of beer. I would tell you what happened, but we all agreed that "what happens at Churchill's stays at Churchill's" ;) It was about midnight (I think) when we walked to O'Leary's for Cara to get her coat and shared a cab home.

Happy St. Patricks Day!

I've got a Nano!

Wednesday mornings always start well. Gary has to go for his blood tests on Wednesdays, so he drops Darrelyn off at school on his way. This means I have no reason to get dressed until I feel like it ;D

After cleaning up after breakfast, Breanna and I played a game where she could practice her letter and number recognition. She is doing quite well. Just a few letters she gets mixed up. Next week, I'm hoping to start the letters of her name in more detail. A little head-start for Kindergarten.

Then, Breanna played happily by herself while I did... you guessed it... more laundry. I am finally caught up. That is until I clean the girls' rooms.

Breanna and I had lunch in the living room today and then she cuddled on my lap while I crocheted. At around 1:00 I finally decided I should shower.

Just before we left to pick up Darrelyn, a courier arrived with a package. It was my new iPod Nano!!! Yay!!!!
I think you can guess what I did for most of the afternoon.

This evening I headed to Curves and was eyeing the tanning place in the same mini mall. I wonder if I should get a tan before I go to Vegas so I don't burn when I'm there. Any thoughts?

March showers bring April flowers?

Today, it was raining. Therefore, much to the girls' disappointment, I drove Darrelyn to school. I'm all for walking in the rain, it can be great fun, but I didn't want Darrelyn sitting in damp clothes all day.

When Bre and I came home, she played with her magnets while I tackled more laundry and cleaned the kitchen. Sarah called and asked if Breanna would like to go to the Family Resource Centre for Drop-in play. That's like asking if fish like water. So, I packed the "green bag" (this is the bag I take everywhere with all our essential things in it), got Breanna dressed in normal clothes and put her hair in pigtails. Sarah came by around 10:00 to pick her up.

I had from 10:00 until 11:30 all to myself!!!! Wow was the house ever quiet. Since we moved the computers downstairs, the hum is missing upstairs. Add that to no Breanna and it was SILENT. Is this what its going to be like next year? I have a feeling I'll be spending a lot more time at the school next year.

While Breanna was out, I managed to organize my user's manuals, hook up the karaoke machine that we've had for over a year, do more laundry and take the meat out that I will need for this week's meal plan. I started to go through the flyers, but it was time to leave.

On Tuesdays, I volunteer for pizza day at the school. They have two lunches, the k-2 and the 3-5. For each shift I get a bunch of party pizzas delivered and I have to divide them up according to what was ordered for each class. Oh and I have to do all this within 15 minutes. Did I mention that there are approx 3 classes for each grade? Sometimes more. Lets just say I'm am extremely busy when the pizzas arrive. One day, I couldn't make it and it took two people to replace me. Kind of makes me feel good ;D

After I was done volunteering, I quickly stopped at the dollar store to pick up a preschool workbook for Bre and then went to M&M meats. Their chicken nuggets were on sale and I absolutely love them! Oh I mean the girls love them, yeah that's it.

I visited with Sarah for about half an hour until I had to pick Darrelyn up. Sarah told me about a ladies spa weekend coming up and said she wanted a friend to go with her. She really had to twist my arm and force me, but I agreed to go... just for her of course! Okay, so honestly, I'm really excited. There'll be a massage therapist, manicurist, pedicurist, hair stylist, etc. The entire weekend for only $65!

After school, the girls and I went to the museum. I already packed a snack in the "green bag", but I needed to buy some apple juice. We had our snack by the fountain. Darrelyn was quite perturbed that the fountain was green. I explained it was for St. Patrick's Day and she said she still didn't like it ::) After snack, we went to the museum and straight to the play room. The girls played while I sat and crocheted. What a nice afternoon. Our family membership is probably the best money I've spent this year.

Gary met us after work and suggested we go out to eat. The girls won and we headed to Pizza Delight. It was a nice surprise to find out that children eat free on Tuesdays... BONUS!

The girls played for awhile after we got home and then I told them it was bed time. They got into their jammies and were ready for bed in record time. Then we heard the music coming from downstairs. Gary didn't realize that I actually convinced them it was bedtime before 7:00 so he was playing music for Darrelyn to dance to. You would think the night gown would have given it away. Anyway, we had a chuckle over it and the girls went off to bed.

Just another Manic Monday

Ahh the Monday after a March Break. The day started with Darrelyn not wanting to go to school. Give them a week and they want a month ::)

After I walked Darrelyn to school, Gary called to say he forgot his morning meds. I packed them up and Bre and I drove them into his work.

I came home and eyed the evil that is laundry. I didn't get much done last week so it was all waiting for me. Throughout the day, I managed to complete two loads of towels and put away two loads of regular clothes.

I cleaned up the kitchen and Breanna and I headed back to the school for the hot lunch program. Mondays are fajitas and donairs. Its really easy since most of the younger children don't order the food. How did I get stuck with Pizza day as my regular day? Breanna was wonderful while I got everything ready. She ate her lunch, played with Darrelyn's Winx Dolls (no one tell Darrelyn :o ) and colored. She also helped me count the milk for the milk trays.

After lunch, we came home and I caught up with Sarah while doing laundry. Then it was time to pick Darrelyn up at school. Breanna and I took Buddy with us. He absolutely loves all the attention from the children and I think his tail wags his body when he sees Darrelyn coming! Needless to say, we walked the long way home.

I helped Darrelyn with her homework and we did some reading. Then I cuddled with Bre for a little bit. After that, I went on the treadmill for about 15 to 20 minutes and arranged some stuff on my desk. Dancing with Darrelyn in between, of course.

After supper I went to Curves and, of course, it would be packed my first time on my own. I just stood there and watched the other ladies on the machines to refresh my memory. Then I went to town. Once I started my workout, I was really happy I joined this gym. There is no waiting for equipment, no getting bored of one machine and lots of encouragement watching the other ladies.

Gary is now out buying a TV for the rec/family room. It is still a disaster, hopefully I'll find time to do more tomorrow or maybe even tonight.

Long time no post

Time to start posting again. Rather than trying to catch everyone up on what's been happening, I figured I would just jump in with the present:

Friday:

Friday... trying to remember what I did on Friday. Oh yeah! Gary and I fixed the oven all by ourselves!!! An error code showed and it was beeping. I googled the error code and found out what the problem was, the thermostat sensor. Gary checked the OHMS reading and, yup, sure enough it was dead. He called around, found someone who carried the part and we fixed it.

In order to fix it, we had to pull the oven out. We have been living here for 6.5 years and I have never pulled the oven out. I still have memories of the movers worrying about if it would fit, so I didn't want to mess with it. Turns out, its easy to get in and out, if you slide it. Needless to say, it was quite a mess under there so I took the opportunity and cleaned the floor, the sides of the cabinets and the sides of the stove.

The kids and I made some window clingers (those are great) and played some XBox. I also cleaned the toy room to prepare for Saturdays renovations.

Friday afternoon, since Gary took the day off, I headed to Curves for my first visit. It was great. I can't get over how "normal" all the women there were. I'm looking forward to going back.

Friday night, Cara and I went to the funeral home. My friend's father passed away, so Cara made her a card from our playgroup and we brought it by. This was my first time in a funeral home since my mother passed away. It was really, really hard. My eyes are filling just thinking of it. Lise's mother must think I'm insane or something :-/ Thank heavens Cara was with me, cause that kind of forced me to hold it in. Then I talked Cara into letting me come to the mall with her :P I saw the cutest hoodie at Garage and its only $25 so I'm strongly thinking of buying it.

Saturday:

Saturday started at 4:30am with Darrelyn waking up with a fever. Since she wasn't feeling well on Friday night, she was already sleeping with me. I gave her some Tylenol and hoped she would go back to sleep. No such luck. She moaned for the first half hour until the Tylenol started working and then she decided it was a good time to talk... endlessly ::) I think I did get about 45 minutes of sleep before I had to get up.

In the morning, I went to a parenting class on "Raising your spirited child". Turns out I have two "spirited" children. One is an introvert and one is an extrovert. Fun, fun, fun. At least I am learning that I'm not alone and getting great tips from the other moms and the coordinators of the course.

Then I picked up milk, did recycling and headed home to a house full of people. Linda, Rusty and the children were there. Gary was upstairs watching the children while Linda and Rusty put up the ceiling in the former playroom now family room. They had just finished lunch and all the mess was still there, so I got to work cleaning the kitchen. Once the kitchen was cleaned, I started making preparations for supper and played with the children.

Sunday:

What a busy day today! I woke up, made coffee and immediately went to work downstairs. First thing was to clean the floors. Then I started moving items out of the "back room" I found a place for almost everything, which I am quite proud of ;D

Then I started putting the toys in the "back room", now officially known as the toy room. Wow, was it ever hard to fit everything in! We ended up moving all the books to Darrelyn's room and the toy chest with all the stuffed toys to Breanna's room. Darrelyn was quite worried there wouldn't be enough room for her to ride her bike in the basement ::)

Then, after we hung the blinds in the family room, we started clearning off our computer desks to move downstairs. I couldn't get over how much stuff Gary had in and around his! Lets just say he now has a buffet table beside his desk to hold all his "stuff". I evened it out though by putting up my own buffet table for scrapbooking ;D

After the desks were cleaned off, I made supper while Gary unhooked everything. After supper, we carried the desks downstairs. That was not fun! I left Gary to hook everything up while I tackled the living room.

You would not believe the amount of dust that can build up behind computer desks!!! I think it was a whole community of dust bunnies.

At about 7:30 I finished the living room, put the girls to bed and watched Grey's Anatomy. I will wait to tackle the rest of the house tomorrow.

I'm thinking I need a glass of wine!

If you made it this far, boy do you have alot of time on your hands... wanna come over
;)
